A poll question was asked on the MSN sign in page. It read as follows..."Should passengers who get in the car with a drunk driver face charges too?" A whopping 46% of the respondents replied yes.
Just as in the headlines across Canada last week, the government is looking at giving the Police the powers to do road side checks for impaired driving anytime. That is a well in good. Lets just clog up the impotent justice system even more. The government of Canada is going about the problem all wrong.
Until the government enforces strict sentencing guidelines and forces judges to at least minimal sentences. Such as in the case of a drunk driver causing death there should be at least a minimum life sentence to the offender. I urge all readers to contact their local MP's and urge them to enforce laws such as this.
The status quo isn't working. Currently there is no deterent to the action of driving while under the influence.
